I am just starting out, do I need a dual tray printer?

-While a dual tray printer might be convenient, there are certain things you can do without one.

  1. When you are working with local companies, tell them that you’d like to pick up the documents.
  2. Use a Page Separator Software that splits a loan package into separate files for Letter and Legal. While you still need to purchase Legal size paper, you can use a single tray printer to print your documents, so that you don’t have to invest in a dual tray printer

 

-Where can I get my Notary Supplies, Bonds and E&O Insurance?
There are many places you can get your supplies and other required items from.

GNW, NSA, what do those abbreviations mean?

GNW is short for General Notary Work, and usually refers to all notarizations except Loan Documents. Examples are: Power of Attorney, Advance Health Care Directive, Travel Authorization for Minors, Estate Planning Documents, Copy Certification by Document Custodian (in States where Notaries can NOT certify copies of certain documents), etc.

NSA stands for Notary Signing Agent, and refers to Notaries who are knowledgeable in handling Loan Documents. Notaries who have acquired a certification, might use the term “CNSA”. Other terms are Loan Signing Agent, or Certified Loan Signing Agent, maybe followed by the organization who issued the certification.

 

I had to pass a background check in order to receive my commission. Do I need a new one every year?

-It depends… Many larger title companies require you to pass an annual background check. If you want to work with them, you would need to comply with their requirements.

 

Should I get a background check from the NNA, or a different company?

There are Title/Escrow Companies that only recognize the NNA’s background check and if you want to work with them, you should get it from the NNA. (see next question also)

 

Should I become a Certified Loan Signing Agent and which company should I get certified from?

-While there are many companies who offer training and certification courses, some companies only recognize the NNA’s certification. If you want to be able to work with as many companies as possible, you should get their certification. You may also be required to pass the exam on an annual basis. In addition, I also recommend the course from Notary2Pro.com, which is a great training course and their course is also recognized my many Escrow Companies. 

Follow these steps to become a certified Signing Agent:

  1. Order the NSA Background Screening Only package. It comes with the Notary Signing Agent Exam and a listing in their Signing Agent Directory (currently $70).
  2. Enroll in the Notary2Pro Signing Agent Course
  3. Complete the course and complete both exams

 

How much should I charge?

-Your state might have maximum fees that you are allowed to charge, and make sure you abide by those laws! Aside from that, think about what your time is worth to you. How far are you driving and how much time does it take? When you are also printing documents, there is a cost associated with that as well. Other things to consider is number of pages to print and the number of signers. When it comes to loan documents, the fees are somewhat predetermined and the ability to (re)-negotiate might be somewhat limited.

 

How fast can I start earning money?

-This is what pretty much everyone would like to know! It depends on various factors:

  1. How much effort are you planning on putting in?
  2. How large is your current network?
  3. Are you someone who is proactive and is planning on actively marketing their business, or are you planning on solely engaging on passive marketing and advertising? If you are unsure about the difference of these 2 types of marketing, make sure to join our LIVE training!

  1. Register on Snapdocs.com, a notary public database which is utilized by many signing services.
  2. Locate local networking events in your area
  3. Think about who you know who either has a need for your service, or who may know someone who has a need for your service
